Student Profile

Kristianna Mortera

Instrumental Music Education with emphasis in the Saxophone (Senior)

Kristianna MorteraThe first time I set foot on Concordia's campus was my jump start orientation. Some may call that unorthodox, but I call it taking a leap of faith in the right direction. Being a student in Concordia's music and education departments has given me so many opportunities to grow as a musician and as a future educator.

During my time at Concordia, I've participated in a number of music ensembles including the Wind Symphony, Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Band, Cougar Band, Laudate Women's Chamber Choir, Saxophone trios and quartets, and the University Band. In May of 2017, I also had the wonderful opportunity to tour South Africa for sixteen days with the Wind Symphony. With all of the many opportunities provided to me by Concordia, being blessed is an understatement.

Following graduation, I plan to become a high school instrumental music teacher and further my career with advanced degrees in education and conducting.

Alumni Profiles

Adam Friedrich

Marching Band Director
Concordia Lutheran High School - Fort Wayne, IN

friedrich-adam.jpgThough having studied piano since age five, it was not until high school that Adam picked up his first mallet. There was an instant connection, and a new passion was born.

While at CUC, he was a member of the Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Band and Cougar Band, serving the last two years as student director. Adam chose Concordia-Chicago because it “just felt right.” Adam feels tremendously blessed by all the opportunities that choice has afforded him. Most notably, he cites the Wind Symphony trip to China and the opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Jodi Kratzer

Middle School Choral Teacher
Fort Zumwalt North Middle School - O'Fallon, MO

kratzer-jodi.jpgFamily. Belonging. Purpose. Called. Faith in action. These are words that I think of when I look back on my time at Concordia. The people that make up this university, both students and faculty alike, truly became a part of my family.

They all cared about my well-being and encouraged me to grow in my faith as well as knowledge. Each one in their own way lived out their faith and made me feel like I belonged – it was evident that they felt God’s call on their lives to be at Concordia Chicago.
