The Ferguson Art Gallery at Concordia University Chicago announces the exhibit “HOW (NOT) TO READ,” by interdisciplinary artist, curator and educator Yoonshin Park. The show will be free and open to the public March 16 – May 3. A reception with the artist will be held in the gallery Sunday, March 16 from 1-3 p.m., with an artist talk at 1:30 p.m.
This exhibition reimagines the book as a multidimensional object, prioritizing material exploration, sensory engagement, and unconventional structures over traditional narratives. Each piece translates the experience of engaging with books into an immersive journey, blending touch, scent, light, movement and sound. By challenging the conventional relationship between viewer and text, the series invites viewers to think about books as objects of discovery, interaction and sensory reflection. Artist Yoonshin Park holds an MFA in interdisciplinary book and paper arts from Columbia College Chicago.
The Ferguson Art Gallery is located in Kretzmann Hall at Concordia University Chicago, 7400 Augusta St., River Forest, IL. The gallery is directed by Nikkole Huss, professor of art and curator of Concordia-Chicago’s art collection. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit CUChicago.edu/ferguson or call 708-209-3635.
