College is more than just attending classes and earning a degree—it’s a time of personal and spiritual growth in preparation for life after graduation. One of the best ways to make the most of your Concordia-Chicago experience is by getting involved in clubs or extracurricular activities on campus. Here’s why:

  1. Make friends and connect with others: Joining an organization or club allows you to meet like-minded people, forming friendships that can last for decades. These connections create a sense of belonging and help you build a supportive network of peers.
  2. Explore your interests: This is the perfect time in life to discover what you truly cherish. Whether you want to deepen your faith, excel in sports, practice a hobby or volunteer, clubs and extracurriculars let you dive deeper into your passions, and may even lead to career paths you hadn’t considered.
  3. Build your resume: Employers look for well-rounded candidates who have more than just good grades. Involvement in campus activities sets you apart and shows that you can balance multiple responsibilities successfully.
  4. Develop your leadership abilities: Involvement in campus activities provides opportunities to take on leadership roles and work as part of a team. You might organize events, manage budgets or collaborate on group projects, all of which help you become a more effective leader and team player.

  • Schedule a quick meeting with the Office of Campus Engagement and fill out the CUC Club form.
  • Identify a faculty or staff advisor (CUC employee).
  • Draw up a constitution, signed by your faculty/staff advisor. (You’ll receive a sample to follow.)
  • Name four student members to serve on your club’s executive board.

The purpose of each student organization must be aligned with the mission and vision of the University. Once your new club has been approved, you’ll attend a Student Government Association (SGA) meeting to introduce yourselves, your goals and event ideas—and you’re off! For all the requirements and details about starting your own club, contact the Office of Campus Engagement at CampusEngagement@CUChicago.edu. They are here to help students!

The benefits of being an official club in good standing means you’ll be able to host events and reserve campus space, utilize University resources for publicity, and receive funding for club programs. Plus, involvement in campus activities allows you a chance to grow personally and professionally. So don’t hesitate—find an activity that interests you and get involved.
