International prize-winning soloists Michaela Paetsch and Susan Merdinger to perform all-Beethoven concert at Concordia-Chicago


Two internationally acclaimed soloists, violinist Michaela Paetsch and pianist Susan Merdinger, join forces to present a concert program featuring four of Beethoven’s Sonatas for Piano and Violin: Nos. 2, 4, 6 and 10. One of the concerts will be held at Concordia University Chicago on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Our Lord, and is presented free of charge.

The Ferguson Art Gallery at Concordia University Chicago presents “Claudia Craemer: Unfolding Secrets” from Jan. 8 to Feb. 17, 2018. The exhibit, a collection of abstract oil paintings, is free and open to the public.

University Band to host Christmas concert at Concordia-Chicago


The University Band of Concordia University Chicago will perform a Christmas concert on Friday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Our Lord on campus. Admission to the annual concert is free.

Student programming team places first in Chicago, improves national and world rankings


A team of Concordia University Chicago undergraduate students have come in first place in the Chicago IEEEXtreme 24-Hour Programming Competition, for the second time in three years. The students’ performance in the annual Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) contest placed them fifth in the greater Midwest, 40th in the United States and 600th in the world out of 3,350 teams. The competition is a global challenge where students in undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs compete together in a 24-hour period to solve a set of programming problems.

Concordia-Chicago to award honorary doctorate to Rev. Lawrence Rast


Concordia University Chicago will award an honorary doctoral degree to Rev. Dr. Lawrence Rast Jr., 16th president of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN, at the CUC fall commencement ceremony. Dr. Rast, who will receive the Doctor of Letters honoris causa, will act as commencement speaker at the undergraduate ceremony on Dec. 9.

Concordia-Chicago students and faculty develop Hebrew and Aramaic language apps


A team of Concordia University Chicago students and faculty has developed, programmed and released two smartphone apps for students learning Old Testament languages: “Aramaic Verb Parsing” and “Hebrew Verb Parsing.” Verb parsing, or identifying verb forms, is a basic skill for learning to use ancient languages. The project was a cooperative effort between Dr. Andrew Steinmann, distinguished professor of theology and Hebrew, Dr. Victor Govindaswamy, associate professor of computer science, and their students.

Concordia-Chicago Center for Entrepreneurship to host national entrepreneurship education advocate Karen Wolters


Karen Wolters, serial entrepreneur and national entrepreneurship education advocate, will share her story, “American Born, Globally Grown,” at Concordia University Chicago’s (CUC) College of Business on Oct. 19, from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m., in Krentz Hall Room 120. Admission is free. The presentation is part of CUC’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s Speaker Series, which is open to the general public on the third Thursday of each month.

The Collective production of "Wittenberg" opens Sept. 29


The Collective, the theater production company of Concordia University Chicago, presents “Wittenberg” by David Davalos. The play, directed by Andrew Pederson, will run Sept. 29-30 and Oct. 6-7 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 1 and 8 at 3 p.m., at the Madison Street Theatre, 1010 Madison St., Oak Park, IL.
