Computer science faculty member at Concordia-Chicago receives mentorship award

Dr. Victor Govindaswamy, associate professor of computer science, was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Chicago Section in recognition of his valued service and contributions as a professor and mentor for outreach activities of the IEEE Chicago student branch at Concordia University Chicago.

CUC faculty member named to governor-elect's Educational Success Committee

Dr. Kevin O’Mara, associate professor of educational leadership at Concordia University Chicago, was named to Illinois Governor-elect J.B. Pritzker’s educational transition team. The committee, made up of advocacy group leaders, university officials, lawmakers and other subject-matter experts from around Illinois, will serve in an advisory role for the incoming Pritzker-Stratton administration.

Concordia-Chicago's strength and conditioning degree program earns recognition by key national association

Concordia University Chicago’s Master of Science in applied exercise science–strength and conditioning was recently recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Education Recognition Program (ERP). The NSCA ERP recognizes and distinguishes schools with standardized, approved strength and conditioning or personal training curricula in undergraduate and graduate settings designed to prepare students for the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) and NSCA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certifications.

CUC's University Band to host annual Christmas concert

Concordia University Chicago’s University Band presents their annual Christmas concert on Friday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. The free, festive performance will be held in the Chapel of Our Lord on campus.

Concordia-Chicago students place first in Chicago programming competition

A team of Concordia University Chicago undergraduate students have come in first place in the Chicago IEEEXtreme 24-Hour Programming Competition, for the third time in four years. Their performance in the annual Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) contest placed them 30th in the United States and 426th in the world—in the top 10 percent—out of 5,155 teams. Student teams from CUC captured the top seven places among competitors from universities in and around Chicago. CUC also debuted its first-ever all-women programming team, which finished 84th in the United States and 915th in the world, among the top 20 percent.

Abstract art exhibit "Zumbandi Baani" opens Nov. 19 at Concordia-Chicago

The Ferguson Art Gallery at Concordia University Chicago presents “Zumbandi Baani,” an exhibit of contemporary abstract paintings, drawings, collage and mixed-media works by Gretchen Beck. The free, public exhibition will be on display from Nov. 19 to Dec. 15.

"The Nerd" opens Nov. 9 at Madison Street Theatre

Wind Symphony and Kapelle to perform fall home concerts

The Wind Symphony of Concordia University Chicago will perform their home concert on Friday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m., following a tour of Missouri, Indiana and Illinois. The Kapelle will perform their home choral concert on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m., following a tour of Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. The free concerts will take place in the University’s Chapel of Our Lord.
