CUC's University Band to host annual Christmas concert
Concordia University Chicago’s University Band presents their annual Christmas concert on Friday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. The free, festive performance will be held in the Chapel of Our Lord on campus.
Songs to be played will include “L’Arlesienne Suite” by Georges Bizet, “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” by J.S. Bach, “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson and “Divinum Mysterium” arranged by James Swearingen. Peter Pohlhammer will sing “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” by Albert Hague, and will narrate “The Night Before Christmas” by Randol Bass. Jean Harrison Bojes will provide commentary on the performances, introducing and describing each selection.
The University Band comprises approximately 70 musicians, including residents from surrounding communities as well as Concordia University Chicago students, faculty and staff. Dr. Richard Fischer, distinguished professor of music and the Fred and Jane Wittlinger Endowed Chair for Music Performance, conducts the ensemble. In addition to his work at Concordia-Chicago, he is in demand internationally as a guest conductor, clinician, presenter and adjudicator.
Concordia-Chicago’s campus is located at 7400 Augusta St., River Forest, IL. Free off-street parking is available in the University’s parking structure, south of Division Street on Bonnie Brae Place. Handicapped-accessible parking is available in the visitors’ lot adjacent to the north side of the University parking structure.
