CUC Baseball team advances to NCAA Division III World Series

The Concordia University Chicago baseball team will make their second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Division III World Series, and this year they will go as the second seed among the eight qualifying teams. The Cougars will be the top seed in their pool, and they will begin their quest for the Division III national title this Friday, May 25 when they take on Swarthmore College (PA).

The format of the World Series, which was revamped just last year, features two pools of four teams each. The two pools will play a double elimination for the first three days (May 25-27), with an “if necessary” game on May 28 to decide the pool winner. The two winners of each pool will then meet in a best-of-three series on May 28-29 to decide the World Series champion (May 29-30 if the “if necessary” game is needed).

Concordia-Chicago has been placed in Pool B, and they will take on fourth-seeded Swarthmore at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The other first-round Pool B will follow at 7:45 p.m., second-seed College of Wooster (OH) versus third-seed Texas Lutheran University. The early games on Friday will come from Pool A, where second-seed State University of New York at Oswego will take on third-seeded University of Texas at Tyler at 10 a.m., followed by top seed Randolph-Macon College (VA) versus Misericordia University (PA) at 1:15 p.m. All games will be hosted by Lawrence University and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and played at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, WI.
