Concordia-Chicago to award honorary doctorate to Rev. John T. Pless


Concordia University Chicago will award an honorary Doctor of Letters to Rev. John T. Pless at its spring commencement ceremony. Pless is assistant professor of pastoral ministry and missions at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN (CTSFW), where he also serves as director of field education.

Prior to joining the faculty, he was campus pastor at University Lutheran Chapel at the University of Minnesota for 17 years. Pless is a graduate of Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, TX (B.A.) and Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, OH (M.Div.).

A regular lecturer at various conferences in the United States and overseas, Pless coordinates CTSFW’s annual Mercy Mission Expedition to Madagascar in partnership with the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Board for World Relief and Human Care. He is the author of several books, including “Praying Luther’s Small Catechism,” “Handling the Word of Truth: Law and Gospel in the Church Today” and “Luther on the Care for the Sick and the Dying.”

The undergraduate commencement ceremony will take place in Concordia University Chicago’s Geiseman Gymnasium on Saturday, May 5 at 10:30 a.m., followed by the graduate commencement ceremony at 3 p.m. Event admission is by ticket only.
