Reed Evans, founder and program director of Scale it Up! Sustainability, will conduct a workshop at Concordia University Chicago at the end of this month.
The workshop will take place on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Concordia-Chicago campus (Christopher Center Room 287, 7400 Augusta St., River Forest, IL). Evans is founder and program director of Scale it Up! Sustainability and the nonprofit program Scale it Up! Sustainability Training for Women Entrepreneurs. She has provided sustainability strategy, training, stakeholder engagement and communications services to private companies and public institutions as principal of Reed Evans Sustainability Consulting since 2007.
“CUC’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is very pleased to have this opportunity to partner to host Reed Evans and this hands-on workshop about developing a sustainability business strategy. This workshop is ideal for persons looking to start a business in the field of sustainability or for those looking to incorporate sustainability practices and benefits into their existing business,” said Dr. Claudia Santin, dean of CUC’s College of Business.
According to Intuit’s 2020 Report, sustainability—balancing environmental, social and economic considerations in business decision-making—will be a “competitive requirement for small business within the next ten years, moving from social novelty to business necessity.”
“I’m excited to bring this Introduction to Sustainability Business Strategy workshop to Concordia University Chicago, to inspire the next wave of entrepreneurial businesses and corporations wanting to incorporate a triple-bottom-line strategy (people, plant, profit) that is created when businesses integrate sustainability into their strategy, goals and activities,” said Evans.
This workshop will be the first among CUC’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s series of entrepreneurship seminars, workshops and boot camps, which are open to the general public. Through a lively and fun workshop of presentations, case studies and interactive exercises, participants will have gained new critical and creative business planning skills and will have gained knowledge about benefits and opportunities that come with integrating sustainability into strategy, activities and operations.
Participants will be introduced to a working definition of sustainability and an introduction to a framework and planning process for integrating sustainability into an entrepreneurial business or existing company. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will have gained new critical and creative business planning skills and will have gained knowledge about benefits and opportunities that come with integrating sustainability into strategy, activities and operations. Post-workshop, each participant will also receive a list of resources they can draw upon to get a head start on their own business sustainability journey.
