"The Pop Up Expert" Stephen Brooks to speak at Concordia-Chicago

Stephen Brooks, CEO and founder of The Pop Up Retail Expert, will present, “Why Retail Is Not Dead Yet,” at Concordia University Chicago on Sept. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m., as part of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s (CIE’s) Entrepreneurship Speaker Series.

“Concordia University Chicago’s CIE is excited to have Stephen Brooks, a serial entrepreneur and retail industry expert, on campus to share his optimism and insights,” said Dr. Claudia Santin, dean of CUC’s College of Business. She added, “When the prevailing business opinion is that the retail industry is dying, it takes an innovative entrepreneur like Stephen Brooks to demonstrate how retail operations are still very much alive.”

In this free, public event, Brooks will share his deep expertise on retail operations and the shopping center industry. He will explain how he helps local and global companies launch, survive and revive their retail operations. Brooks’ talks include high-energy and entertaining insights about every aspect of growing a business, by leveraging a retail presence from startup to sale, including turnaround to success.

“The pop-up retail concept has been around for centuries. We used to call them markets and bazaars,” said Brooks. “Pop-up locations are not only still a useful strategy, they are also one of the most practical vehicles to test the market.”

Stephen Brooks has started, grown and sold several businesses in the retail management space over the course of his 35-year career working in the retail and shopping center industry. He has worked in generating revenue in shopping centers around third-party activity, including production demonstrations, kiosk operations, photo booths and short-term pop-up retail businesses. His clients include multinational corporations such as T-Mobile, Arabian Oud and Virgin Media, shopping malls around the world, and sole proprietor stores. Books by Stephen Brooks include, “How to be Successful in Shopping Malls,” “Make an Exhibition of Yourself” and “The Secrets of the Wealth Accelerators.”

The event will take place in CUC’s Krentz Center-Room 120, 7400 Augusta Street, River Forest, IL, 60305. Free, off-street parking is available in the University’s parking structure, south of Division Street on Bonnie Brae Place. Handicapped-accessible parking is available in the visitors’ lot adjacent to the north side of the University parking structure.
