University Band presents spring concert at Concordia-Chicago
Concordia-Chicago’s University Band will perform its spring concert on Friday, March 31, at 8 p.m. The free concert will take place in the University’s Chapel of Our Lord.
Performances for the evening will include “American Overture for Band” by Joseph Willcox Jenkins, “On an American Spiritual” by David Holsinger, “Arabesque” by Samuel Hazo, “Jazz Suite No. 2” by Dmitri Shostakovich, “Irish Tune from County Derry” by Percy Grainger, “Big Band Signatures” by John Higgins, “The Cowboys” by John Williams and “Lightning Field” by John Mackey.
The University Band comprises approximately 70 musicians, including residents from surrounding communities as well as Concordia University Chicago students, faculty and staff. Dr. Richard Fischer, distinguished professor of music and the Fred and Jane Wittlinger Endowed Chair for Music Performance, conducts the ensemble. In addition to his work at Concordia-Chicago, he is in demand internationally as a guest conductor, clinician, presenter and adjudicator.
Concordia-Chicago’s campus is located at 7400 Augusta Street, River Forest, IL. Free off-street parking is available in the University’s parking structure, south of Division Street on Bonnie Brae Place. Handicapped-accessible parking is available in the visitors’ lot adjacent to the north side of the University parking structure.
