University Band to host Christmas concert at Concordia-Chicago
Concordia University Chicago’s University Band will perform a Christmas concert on Friday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Our Lord on campus. Admission is free.
Selections for the evening will include “The Night Before Christmas” by Randel Alan Bass, based on the famous poem by Clement Clarke Moore, and narrated by Peter Pohlhammer. The band will also perform “Gloriana” by Jay Bocook, “Midnight Sleighride” by Sergei Prokofiev, “A Christmas Intrada” by Alfred Reed, as well as an audience Christmas sing-along. Jean Harrison Bojes, an audience favorite for more than 10 years, will provide commentary on the performance, introducing and describing each selection.
The University Band comprises approximately 70 musicians, including residents from surrounding communities as well as Concordia University Chicago students, faculty and staff. Dr. Richard Fischer, distinguished professor of music and the Fred and Jane Wittlinger Endowed Chair for Music Performance, conducts the ensemble. In addition to his work at Concordia-Chicago, he is in demand internationally as a guest conductor, clinician, presenter and adjudicator.
Concordia-Chicago’s campus is located at 7400 Augusta Street, River Forest, IL. Free off-street parking is available in the University’s parking structure, south of Division Street on Bonnie Brae Place. Handicapped-accessible parking is available in the visitors’ lot adjacent to the north side of the University parking structure.
