The Art of P. Solomon Raj to be exhibited at Concordia University Chicago
The Ferguson Gallery at Concordia-Chicago presents “The Art of P. Solomon Raj,” an exhibit of original woodcut prints by the artist and educator from Andhra Pradesh, India. Solomon Raj’s prints were created as special meditations for the Twelve Days of Christmas and are on loan from St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Itasca, IL. The works will be on exhibit in the gallery from Nov. 23 to Dec. 27.
“The Art of P. Solomon Raj” is a review of the Gospel of St. Luke as seen through the eyes of a contemporary artist living in India. Solomon Raj is a theologian and pastor of the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church whose artwork has been exhibited in many parts of the world.
In addition to the woodcuts, “suggested scriptures, hymns and prayers, created by St. Luke’s Church for a 2008 celebration, will be posted in the gallery to aid viewers in looking at the works in a devotional context,” said BettyAnn Mocek, Ferguson Gallery director and professor of art at Concordia University Chicago. “We hope these works and texts will inspire individuals and families to celebrate not just one day, but the entire Christmas season.”
The Ferguson Art Gallery is located in Kretzmann Hall at Concordia University Chicago, 7400 Augusta St., River Forest, IL.
