Student Engagement Team
The Service Engagement Team (SET) is a group of incoming freshman students that are invited to campus early to engage in free leadership development workshops and experiences. By participating in the program, students will be able to immerse themselves in the CUC experience quickly and jump into involvement opportunities right when the semester starts. By the end of the three-day experience, participants should:
- Feel connected to and confident about CUC, through exposure to programs, resources, traditions and people.
- Develop an increased self-awareness of his or her own identity.
- Appreciate and respect various student cultures through exposure to and/or interaction with a diverse group of students.
- Build long-lasting relationships with peers, student leaders and administrators.
Eligibility and Expectations
To be eligible to participate, freshman students must be able to attend the entire experience starting Monday, August 14 to Wednesday, August 16. Students who already have commitments with their sports team, music groups, etc. during those three days are not eligible. This is a free experience open to both residential and commuter students. Residential students will be able to move in early on Monday, August 14. Commuter students will be expected to be on campus at the start of each day. Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) will be provided throughout the experience.
Students that participate in SET will then assist with check-ins on August 17 and August 18, in addition to attending and supporting major WOW events as they are able to.
Applications are due by July 17. Those that are selected will be notified via email by July 24. Please email a completed application and essay to Student.Activities@CUChicago.edu. Please contact Amanda Butkiewicz at Amanda.Butkiewicz@CUChicago.edu or 708-209-4075 with questions.
