Recognized as a leader in teacher education, Concordia-Chicago graduates the state’s largest number of public school teachers among private Illinois colleges. More than 3,000 Chicagoland teachers and administrators seeking their graduate education degrees enroll each year.

The College of Education prepares teachers, school leaders, school counselors and directors of Christian education (DCE) at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Its doctoral programs offer specialization in early childhood education, public school leadership and nonpublic school leadership.

Golden Apple Award Recipients and Scholars

The Golden Apple is a non-profit organization that works to inspire, develop and support teacher excellence in Illinois, especially in schools of need.

To date, 19 Concordia University Chicago alumni have received The Golden Apple Award. The Golden Apple award is presented annually to “recognize outstanding teaching and to promote teacher recruitment.”

Concordia-Chicago also has 21 Golden Apple Scholars. Scholars are bright high school graduates who receive a scholarship and who, upon graduation, teach for five years in an Illinois school of need.
