General Council

The General Council was organized on November 20, 1867 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, by seven former General Synod bodies (Pennsylvania Ministerium, New York Ministerium, Pittsburgh Synod, English Ohio, District Ohio, Minnesota, and Illinois) plus four synods that had heretofore been independent (Augustana, Canada, Michigam, amd Wisconsin). Its first hymnal, The Church Book, was published in 1868.
