The Center for Church Music wishes to honor the legacy of Concordia University Chicago distinguished professor of music Dr. Carl Schalk. This legacy includes not only his music but also his exceptional research, writing and lecturing in the area of Lutheran church music.
The Schalk Scholar program seeks to identify and support up and coming scholars in the area of church music. The program provides recognition, publication (in print and online), as well as opportunities for them to present their work.

Sam Eatherton, Dallas TX
Sam, an outstanding church musician and composer at Zion Lutheran Church in Dallas, is a former student of Charles Ore. He is currently a DMA student at Baylor University. He has done considerable research and writing in the area of church music, especially in the area of “Children’s Song in the Lutheran Church.”
