The Artists of Concordia Theatre Presents “Lysistrata”

10/23/2013

Concordia University Chicago’s Artists of Concordia Theatre will present “Lysistrata” beginning November 14. Performances will take place at Concordia-Chicago’s new performance space in the Madison Street Theatre, 1010 Madison Street, Oak Park, IL.

Directed by Melissa Lorraine, founder and artistic director of Theatre Y in Chicago, this reimagined spin on the comedic Grecian classic tells the story of women who band together to stop the bloodshed during the 1990 war in Belgrade–using themselves as the weapons.

“Audiences can expect to see this classic tale reimagined,” says Artists of Concordia Theatre artistic director Jason Narvy. “Melissa’s study of eastern European theatre has provided her with an artistic vision unlike any other director. I look forward to sharing that unique vision with our students and the community.”

Born in France, Lorraine is known for her experimental style and energizing use of movement as an actor and director. She immersed herself in native Hungarian theatre after graduating from Northern Illinois University in 2001. Lorraine’s work has been acclaimed by New York’s experimental La MaMa theatre company as well as international critics in Romania, Israel and Palestine.

“Lyistrata” performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on November 14-16 and 21-23, and at 2 p.m. on November 17 and 24. Tickets are $15 for the general admission, with discounts for students and senior citizens.
