CUC marks 100 years in River Forest with Community Celebration

9/19/2013

Concordia University Chicago invites the public to attend its Community Celebration on Saturday, October 12, on the Pillars Lawn of its River Forest campus. This celebration marks Concordia-Chicago’s 100th anniversary in River Forest. The free event is open to guests and families of all ages.

The fun starts at 10 a.m. with family games, face painting, a bounce house, magic, storytelling, historic reenactments, food, drink and more. A short ceremony recognizing the centennial, dignitaries in attendance and key members of Concordia-Chicago’s past, present and future will take place at noon. Family activities will continue until 1 p.m. and food will be available until 2 p.m.

The University Band’s will perform a free superhero/sci-fi themed pops concert from 1 to 2 p.m. (attendees must provide their own chairs).

Originally established in 1864, the University dedicated its River Forest campus on October 12, 1913 in front of an estimated 40,000 people. Over the past 100 years, Concordia-Chicago has flourished, in part, thanks to the generous support of the community.

The Concordia-Chicago campus is located at 7400 Augusta Street, River Forest, IL. Free handicapped-accessible parking is available in the visitors’ lot north of the University parking structure off Bonnie Brae Street.
