Concordia to Host University Band Christmas Concert
The Concordia University Chicago Band will present a Christmas Concert on Friday, November 30, at 8 p.m., in The Chapel of Our Lord, on Concordia’s River Forest campus. Admission is free.
Concert selections include The Night Before Christmas by Randol Alan Bass based on the familiar poem by Clement Clarke Moore with Peter Pohlhammer as narrator. In addition, the University Band will perform Farandole by Georges Bizet; March of the Toys by Victor Herbert; Shepherd’s Hey by Percy Grainger; Tom Wallace’s settings of Patapan, Jesus, Jesus Rest Your Head, and I Wonder as I Wander; Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson; and an audience Christmas Sing-a-long.
The ensemble is conducted by Dr. Richard R. Fischer, a distinguished professor of music and River Forest resident in his 38th year as director of bands at Concordia-Chicago. Dr. Fischer is in demand internationally as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator. Jean Harrison Bojes will be the commentator.
The Concordia-Chicago campus is located at 7400 Augusta Street, River Forest, IL. Free handicapped-accessible parking is available in the visitors’ lot north of the University parking structure on Bonnie Brae Street.
