Theatre Administration

The Theatre Arts Administration program at Concordia University Chicago offers you the opportunity to explore both the theatre and business side through two different degree tracks. Through this program, you will take classes in both CUC’s College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business.

Program Overview

Our program is designed for those with interest in the production and managerial aspects of theatre. Both degree tracks require you to take comprehensive business and theatre courses.

Our bachelor of science degree is in business administration with an emphasis in theatre arts administration, and is for those looking to explore the administrative side of theatre while incorporating the arts into their studies. Our bachelor of arts degree in theatre arts administration is suited for someone interested in working in theatre as a performing artist, who also wants to understand the business side of theatre.

General Course Information

Courses will vary pending the degree track you choose: bachelor of arts or bachelor of science. The bachelor ofscience requires more business core courses, while the bachelor of arts requires more theater core courses. Both offer numerous elective choices in theater and business.

Choosing this route will ensure you receive skills necessaryin the administration of theater. At the same time, required courses will emphasize the performing and technical aspects of theater through history, foundations, acting and directing studio and more.

Simultaneously, you will also study the business side of theater arts. Courses will cover accounting, economics, management, marketing, finance and others. If you choose the bachelor of science degree track, you will also take not-for-profit courses that emphasize accounting, finance, board governance and more.

Opportunities

The Chicago metropolitan area offers a wide range ofopportunities for theater majors. Chicago ranks as one of the top three cities in the nation for theater. CUC takes advantage of the numerous area productions. For example, the contemporary theater class attends many theatrical productions and builds classroom activities around the plays. There are plenty of companies and theaters that offer internships and other professionally associated opportunities.

A.C.T. also offers summer theatre workshops for children—the perfect opportunity to gain instructional experience. Our drama ministry team, Fish Out of the Water, performs for on-campus chapel services, area churches, and churches around the country.

The Concordia Business Club is a student-run organization that links business concepts learned in coursework to the business community through educational opportunities, professional events and real-world experiences.
