General Course Information
The bachelor of science degree provides an in-depth business curriculum and includes classes that focus on business as it relates to not-for-profit and church organizations. If you have questions, a counselor with our Office of Admission can help as you decide on the Concordia degree program that best matches your strengths and career interests.
The program requires 57 semester hours of study. Students take required courses in accounting, economics, statistics, management, ethics, finance, marketing and business law. More specialized courses for the major cover accounting in not-forprofit organizations, finance in not-for-profit and church, volunteer management and contract management. Additionally, students will select electives from courses such as personal finance, small business management and advanced business law.

Concordia’s “supervised work experience” offers opportunities for students to receive academic credit while gaining practical work experience in the field. The campus’ location, as well as the proximity of public transit, opens up a number of exciting internship and networking opportunities with churches and other not-for-profit organizations in Chicago, the vibrant Oak Park and River Forest communities and nearby suburbs.
In addition, annual events and organizations like the CUC Business Club link concepts learned in the classroom to the business community through educational opportunities, professional events and real-world experiences. Business Club members benefit from networking, speakers who help with job placement, leadership development and more. Students also have the option to study abroad, where they can learn about other cultural approaches to business in a memorable and hands-on way.
