April 3, 2009–– Renowned author and theological professor Kurt Buhring will discuss his recent book Conceptions of God, Freedom and Ethics in African American and Jewish Theology, at Concordia University Chicago’s Christopher Center April 15.
Buhring will speak at 11:30 a.m. as part of Concordia’s ongoing Morality, Culture and Christian Community Lecture Series. Admission is free and open to the public. Free, handicapped-accessible parking is available at no charge in the University’s parking structure on Bonnie Brae Street.
Speaking on the issues addressed in his book, Buhring will examine African American and Jewish theological understandings of god, human nature, moral evil, suffering and ethics.
As an assistant professor of religious studies at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind., he enjoys teaching and studying contemporary theology, interreligious dialogue, religion and science. He has also written about the prophet Elijah Muhammad for the Encyclopedia of American Religion and Politics.
His lecture is funded by a grant from the Hilda E. Bretzlaff Foundation of Milford, Mich., in support of Concordia’s Morality, Culture and Christian Community Lecture Series. Established in 1997, the series provides a forum for sharing ideas about our rapidly changing culture and how the change informs and affects the lives of faith-filled people. Twice a year, this series brings experts to Concordia for the betterment of the campus and Chicagoland communities.
