10/29/2011

Nov. 7, 2011— Concordia University Chicago seeks nominations of outstanding area leaders who have contributed significantly to quality of life and education in our Near West suburbs, through the 2012 Community Awards for Excellence in Learning and Leadership program.

The public is invited to nominate candidates for awards for:

  • Outstanding Community Leadership
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Education

Nominees must clearly demonstrate extraordinary contributions and leadership that have benefited the community—going above and beyond their professional obligations to make a measurable impact on organizations, those they serve or the community at large.

A committee of Concordia and community leaders will review nominations and select recipients of the 2012 awards, to be presented at the tenth Concordia University Chicago Community Awards banquet on March 23, 2012.

The deadline to submit a nomination is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22. For the nomination form and more information, visit www.CUChicago.edu/communityawards.

Established in 2003, the Concordia University Chicago Community Awards for Excellence in Learning and Leadership recognize outstanding leaders from Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park, Melrose Park, Maywood and surrounding communities who have contributed significantly to community leadership and education efforts.

The 2011 award recipient for community leadership was presented to John Williams for his community involvement in with River Forest’s Gang and Drug Task Force and Youth Network Council.

For the third year, the President’s Corporate Neighbor Award will be presented to a corporation or organization as selected by the President of Concordia University Chicago. The 2011 President’s Corporate Neighbor Award went to Ragnar Benson, LLC for their exemplary model of corporate community leadership.

The Community Awards program is also Concordia University Chicago’s largest scholarship fundraising event each year, generating proceeds to support scholarships for deserving students from the Near West suburbs attending Concordia-Chicago.
