CUC’s University Band invites all Chicago area residents to attend August auditions

July 11, 2011—Concordia University Chicago’s University Band is inviting instrumentalists to audition for membership into its ensemble.

Auditions are open to all Chicago area residents who have completed high school and are at least 18 years old. The auditions will be held 7-9 p.m., Aug. 15, 16, 22, 23 and 29 on Concordia-Chicago’s campus, and consist of performing a slow/expressive etude or solo expert, a fast/technical etude or solo excerpt and sight reading.

Formed in 1993 and conducted by Richard Fischer, DMA, distinguished professor of music, the University Band is an ensemble of approximately 75 players. Membership includes Concordia students and residents from surrounding communities. The ensemble performs five concerts annually, and literature is drawn from the finest traditional and contemporary repertoire.

Fischer has been at Concordia University Chicago since 1974. He conducts the Wind Symphony, which has performed in 43 states, Canada, Eastern Europe and China; the University Band; and teaches basic and advanced level conducting courses. Fischer is in great demand to guest conduct, adjudicate music festivals and host clinics with bands all over North America.
