  • New Student Orientation- August 25

As part of the Weeks of Welcome 2011, Public Safety made a presentation to all new incoming students.  The Presentation included guests from the River Forest Police and Fire Departments as well as West Suburban Consolidated Dispatch. See photo gallery.

  • Sprinkler Trailer- Campus Awareness Day- August 31

As part of Campus Awareness Day 2011, the River Forest Fire Department (RFFD) brought a sprinkler trailer to campus.  A sprinkler trailer is an enclosed space with a sprinkler head.  The trailer is connected to a fire hydrant.  During demonstrations, RFFD activated the sprinkler head to show how a sprinkler works.

  • DUI Simulator- September 8

DPS, Student Government (VOICE), Residence Life, and the Campus Activities Board (CAB) partnered to bring a DUI (Driving Under the Influence [of alcohol]) simulator to campus as part of the Weeks of Welcome.  A DUI simulator is an actual motor vehicle which is connected to computers to simulate the effects of driving after drinking a certain amount of alcohol.  Campus Wellness also provided information at the event.

 

  • R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) Class- Wednesday nights in September and October

R.A.D. is a self defense course for women only.  It is intended to teach not only strikes and kicks, but also to instill a safety conscious mindset.  The class is offered to the campus community and is taught by instructors from local law enforcement.  R.A.D. is endorsed by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).  For more information contact the Public Safety office at 708-209-3233 or crfsecurity@cuchicago.edu.
