Career Services embraces the philosophy that career development is not just about finding a job after college. Rather, it is about developing the skills that are essential in managing one's career at any point throughout the career development continuum.

Our services are directed toward preparing our students to successfully assess themselves, research career options and use effective tools in their job search. We offer a wide range of programs to help students broaden the perspective of their career choices and to understand the value of their education in relation to the world of work. This includes outreach to students in all academic programs on and off campus. The Career Services staff assists students with their career concerns at any stage of their career development and provides resources for students, alumni and the community we serve.

Career Service's Mission:

  • To provide all students with counseling time and resources to develop career management goals.
  • To provide upper-class students, graduate students, and alumni with job search services to find appropriate internships, full-time employment and/or graduate school enrollment.
  • To provide area employers with opportunities to evaluate and interview seniors and graduates regarding employment opportunities.

Career Development Plan:

The services that we provide have been integrated into a career development plan that focuses on a students needs based on their specific year in school. The plan is focused on awareness, assessment and exploration, testing career options, and preparation for after graduation.

To increase awareness, we give students an opportunity to discover their career interests through self-assessment inventories that we provide through our office. Not only do we want to find a career path that is right for our students, but we also see the importance in helping our students to find out how their values and goals align with their interests.

Many of these assessments open a variety of career possibilities for students to further explore. We have even made some of these inventories available to students online so they can access the information from anywhere in the world. We encourage students to participate in campus and community activities in their areas of interest to begin their personal development. We want our students to have an opportunity to get to know faculty, staff and administrators as they can serve as both mentors and valuable resources during the year and throughout their professional development.

When students reach the exploration phase, we provide them with online resources and career literature to further explore career options. We also provide students with an opportunity to participate in job shadowing experiences and informational interviews with professionals in their interest area.

Once a student selects a major it is then time to think about obtaining an internship opportunity that will further educate the student about their area of study and how it fits into the world of work. We encourage students to make the most of their collegial experience and inform them on ways to better market themselves after they leave Concordia, an internship experience is one way to do this.

Workshops are also highly encouraged as they educate students in the areas of resume, cover letter and reference preparation, professional image, interviewing skills and conducting a successful job search. Individual counseling, mock interviews, graduate and professional school information, a career library and online resources are also available.

Whatever the career services need is that you may have, we are here to serve you and hope you'll stop by the Career Services office to see us!!
