Career Services for Alumni
Career Counseling
On average, people change occupations seven times throughout life. As you re-evaluate your career path and consider new options, the Career Services staff is available to help you as a Concordia alum. It is best to call for an individual appointment to discuss your specific needs. We offer various assessments, tools, and techniques for defining your interests, skills, values, and traits (self-assessment), and we have a variety of resources to help you investigate options in the work world (career assessment). We look forward to assisting you in your "career management" process. Call us at 708.209.3033.Job Search Assistance
Alumni are welcome to use Career Services resources for any of the various facets of the job search process. We offer assistance in preparing the "tools" for your job search: resume and cover letter writing, developing interview skills and "mock" interviewing. Our resources enable you to target and research potential employers. Alumni utilize our job vacancy list, Internet listings, and job bulletins from other colleges to find advertised job openings. Job seekers should spend 50% of their efforts networking, and we can help direct you to some contacts, as well. Concordia undergraduate students often need a "real world" view of occupations, and can benefit from your knowledge, experience, and contacts in your field. We encourage students to conduct "informational interviews" to learn more about jobs in their areas of interest. An informational interview may be as short as 15 minutes-just enough time for a Concordia student to ask you a few questions about what your typical workday is like and what you like or dislike about your job. As a career mentor, you would take more of an active role in meeting with or "coaching" a student or fellow alum that is interested in your career field. Contact the Career Services office if you are interested in making yourself available to Concordia students for informational interviews or as a career mentor.Concordia students as Interns
An intern can be an asset to you by providing work assistance while learning from you, as well.Interns may be available to work Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters (approx. 15 weeks). Students complete internships for credit or not-for-credit (for the experience). Concordia received a grant from the state of Illinois to reimburse employers for up to half of what they pay an intern. (Intern must reside in Illinois and employer must be located in Illinois.) Some students are willing to complete an internship without being paid. Contact Concordia's Career Services office at 708.209.3033 to advertise your need for an intern or to discuss our internship or employer reimbursement programs.
