Billie Howard joined the Preparatory and Community Piano Program full-time faculty in 2004. She holds a M. Mus. degree in piano and piano pedagogy from Northwestern University where she studied piano pedagogy with Marcia Bosits and piano with Sylvia Wang and Elizabeth Buccheri. Howard received the honor of Outstanding Performance while completing a B. Arts degree in piano and violin at Montana State University. She has won several competitions and awards including a semifinalist standing in the MTNA Baldwin Piano Competition. She is a member of Music Teachers National Association, Illinois State Music Teachers Association and Chicago Area Music Teachers Association.
Ms. Howard appears regularly as a soloist and collaborative performer in the Chicago area, having performed with a.pe.ri.od.ic, Classical Revolution, Access Contemporary Music, the Heritage Chorale and the Concordia Chamber Orchestra. In addition to classical performances, Howard plays electric violin, synthesizer and sings for several rock bands. She has been featured on studio recordings by American Idol winner Lee DeWyze, the band Hospital Garden, songwriter Bill Tucker and singer Hadley Kennary, among others. She interviews and photographs musicians in their work spaces for the blog, By Measure. In her free time she enjoys taking photos, making short films and visiting her home state of Montana.
