Biology
Biology students can take advantage of Concordia's location and participate in consortium-like courses and experiences through the university's membership in the Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area (ACCA). In addition, the Morton Arboretum, The Chicago Botanical Garden, The Field Museum Of Natural History, The Brookfield Zoo, The Shedd Aquarium, and The Museum Of Science and Industry are some of the outstanding Chicagoland attractions of interest to biology students.
Chemistry
Are you interested in successfully meeting civilization's challenges of the 21st century? Chemists, chemistry, and the chemical industry will play central roles in addressing these challenges. The study of chemistry at Concordia will help prepare you to do just that. The chemistry major at Concordia University will prepare you to use chemistry in the service of humanity.
Chemistry students take advantage of Concordia's location and participate in experiences at sites such as Argonne National Laboratory and The Museum Of Science And Industry. Our location offers opportunities at various sites valuable internship experiences.
Geography
Are you fascinated by maps? Do you like to travel? Do differences from one place to another intrigue you? Do you want to better understand the physical environment in which you live? Are you concerned about the impact of people on the physical environment or want to explore the connections that link the people of the world together? If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, continued study in geography, earth science, or environmental studies may be for you.
Natural Sciences
The Natural Science major, as offered by Concordia's Natural Sciences and Geography department, provides a "packaging" of courses for the student whose academic or professional plans require a broader base of science courses than would be available in a single-subject area. Students electing the Natural Science major are required to take course work in two subject areas selected from among biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics.
Especially in regard to pre-professional studies in the health sciences, an undergraduate student may decide to choose this major since most medical, dental, and veterinary schools do not require specific majors in biology and chemistry. Rather, one or two years of credits in these areas will meet the requirements of most professional schools. The Natural Science major most closely approximates these requirements.
Along with typical departmental offerings, opportunities also exist for Concordia science students to participate in consortium-type seminars and botany course experiences offered through the Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area (ACCA). In addition, local instrumentation and an on-campus computer facility provide auxiliary support for students and faculty.
Aqualytica is part of the Concordia University Chicago Student Operated Undergraduate Laboratory program which is also known as SOUL. Aqualytica is a community outreach water testing laboratory designed to give students the opportunity to serve community residents by providing analysis of local water samples while gaining real world experiences in the process.
