English Department
Think for a moment how important the English language is to everyday life. Next, think what the world would be without it. How would we educate ourselves and the children of tomorrow?
The components necessary to communicate, learn, and teach are all a part of an English major at Concordia University. Our program will acquaint you with a broad scope of British and American Literature. It will also furnish you with the tools for superior writing, constructive reasoning, and further study in the field of English.
Activities and Organizations
As an English student at Concordia, you will have the opportunity to join your teachers and fellow students in a variety of activities. You will have the chance to attend theatrical productions in downtown Chicago and other area communities. You will be able to participate in events sponsored by the local arts council, and join in literary discussion groups on campus.
You will also have opportunities to write beyond the classroom. Whether you write for The Spectator, Concordia's campus newspaper, or for Pillars, the campus yearbook, you will gain practical experience before you graduate. You may also be published in the campus arts magazine, Motif, an annual collection of short stories, poetry, music, and art.
