Dr. Houska regularly teaches courses in his research areas of cognitive and social psychology, and experiential courses such as Research Methods and Statistics. He also enjoys teaching General Psychology, Sports Psychology and History and Systems. Recently, Dr. Houska developed a course entitled “Video Games on a Socio-Cognitive Screen,” which examines the social and cognitive benefits of gaming.
Among his research interests are text processing, mental representations, memory, attitude change, and persuasion. Dr. Houska also investigates various teaching practices and their effects on student learning. A new line of work involves instructional technology, eLearning and social media. Students interested in any of these research topics are encouraged to contact Dr. Houska. He leads a research team, HURG, and advises student research both in the laboratory and in the classroom.
